Ambassador: UK preparing to confiscate Russian assets

MOSCOW/PARIS, Feb 13 (PRIME) -- The U.K. is preparing a legal framework for confiscating frozen Russian assets, Ambassador to the country Andrei Kelin told PRIME on Monday.

"It is well known that all Western countries, including London, understand that such activities are absolutely illegal, and there are no laws for that,” he said.

“However, the twisted logic is that such laws have to be invented, and the E.U. and Washington are doing it, as I understand. The first case of personal asset confiscation has just occurred."

Kelin declined to elaborate.

France’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Anne-Claire Legendre told channel LCI that the country had frozen 1.3 billion euros of Russian businessmen’ assets, but could not confiscate them without a court ruling.
